Success stories: Dr. Manafu Diana
My name is Manafu Diana and I am 33.
My story is similar to the story of many Romanian doctors that find themselves after finishing the residency in Romania without any possibilities of finding a position in Romania. I graduated medicine in Timisoara. After that I made my residency on family medicine in Timisoara as well, and became a specialist doctor in 2011, finding myself unable to find work. I kept hearing about a lot of colleagues, that they left abroad, working as doctors for several years, but no one would say how they did that. I just kept hearing that X is in England, Y in Germany, Holland, France, Norway, etc. and that they are all happy and satisfied and that they left as soon as they graduated. But again, nobody would share the secret of how they managed to leave. So, I started to search the Internet for a recruiting agency that would find me a position in Germany. This was the country that I always dreamed about. I found a lot of recruiting agencies online, that recruited doctors for Germany, that expected commissions of thousands of euros from me as a candidate, and a lot of agencies with no particular background info.
So, I found EGV, a recruiting agency that did not await any commission from its candidates and that offered a German language course in Berlin. I sent an e-mail to this company and got a surprisingly fast reply the next day. The only problem was that I could hardly speak German, although I studied German for two years in school. EGV told me that if I reach the B1 language level they can finance me an intensive language course in Berlin so I can reach the B2 level. In the second half of September 2011, I finally made a decision to do something for me and my family, because the situation back home had to end. I took my child to my parents (I have a 3 year old son) and I started seriously studying the German language. I found a private tutor to study German with, so I took courses 2-3 times per week and in approximately 3 months and a half I enlisted myself for the intensive course in Berlin that EGV financed. A month in Berlin was for me like a well-earned vacation, after a lot of years of serious studies with no breaks or vacation. During the week I attended courses 6 hours/day, and the weekends were all about trying to visit every site in Berlin. Berlin is a very impressive big and beautiful city. Even in a month I did not manage to see all there is to be seen. During my last week in Berlin, EGV arranged 2 job interviews for me in Bayern. I went to the first interview and I was immediately accepted as a resident doctor for internal medicine. So it was no longer needed to go to the second interview. The interview was in at the end of March. All formalities took about 2 months and a half and at the 1 of July I started work. I can’t say it is easy, I work a lot and I am still learning German. The hospital offers all foreign doctors free language courses once per week. I can honestly say that I am satisfied. My life changed for the better. The quality of life and work conditions exceed by far the ones back in Romania. But alone all by myself, without EGV, I would have not been able to succeed. They took care of the course in Berlin, accommodation, the interviews and all the paperwork that I needed in order to start work in Germany. I just want to say thank you EGV for this chance!
